For now, it is possible to create folding rules from scratch only.
It should be possible to reuse an existing set of rules from an external ignore-like file, like .gitignore or .npmignore to avoid duplicating content and integrate this plugin with VCS like Git.

+100 I am looking for something like this. Especially since the .ignore plugin just decided to drop the future in favor of this plugin

I see this issue is still open, but the plugin configuration list suggests this is already implemented. It is a bit confusing from a user's point-of-view.
