In the dialogue box for searching text, no keyboard input is used for starting the search. It should take enter as input for starting text search.

Using the enter key to start text search works for me on Ubuntu 20.04 (Focal Fossa) with both fbreader-0.12.10dfsg2-4build1 and fbreader-0.99.4. Which version of FBReader and which operating system are you using?

You can see the version you installed by runningapt show fbreader | grep -i version or dpkg --list fbreader in your terminal; I expect it to be v0.12.10.

Starting search by pressing enter when focused on the textbox should work as long as the text you're searching is in the document; try it with a word you know is in the text, if it doesn't work try searching backwards.
