flatcar VM complete hangup

I have a flatcar vm that at some point starts showing console messages:
systemd-journald[959] under memory pressure, flushing caches

Once that happens the VM becomes unusable, ssh sessions freeze-up (and get dropped after a while), qemu-agent stops working. etc etc.

As the message seems to point towards memory usage, I kept an eye on the memory usage. When this starts happening the VM is NOT using all the allocated memory,,,

What does this message mean? What can I look into for debugging.
The moment this starts happening I am done: system become totally unresponsive

This is very interesting, can you share more information regarding the kind of workload on that VM at the time of freeze? do you have Docker or kubernetes loads?

There was an issue opened at some moment regarding the memory OOM manager - #1427.
