As an example, here is what the AdGuardHome macOS menu bar looks like:

Turning the app "on" would:

  1. Start ladder
  2. Set the macOS system proxy to use ladder

Turning the app "off" would:

  1. Unset the macOS system proxy
  2. Stop ladder

Thoughs? 😄

Not sure, if it is a good idea to route all the traffic thru ladder.
