Currently, we only use the nightly toolchain to test the code on all platforms. Nightly makes sense for Apple ARM, as it is needed for the fast bitmatrix transpose. But for the common linux-x86_64 target we should test on stable and nightly, to ensure we don't accidentally use features that are stabilized in an upcoming Rust version.
