When some application has category defined as Education in .desktop file, two category items are created: one for Education and another for Science, so the applications appears twice in categorized menu.
Steps to Reproduce
Open a .desktop file for some application
Change the Categories property to Education. Ex: Categories=Education;Languages;KDE;Qt;
Click in the system Applications menu and show applications by category.
There will be two categories: Education and Science. And the application will appear in both.
Expected Behavior
Freedesktop.org classifies these categories as different and they should not be duplicated.
