Maybe another, possibly simpler, way of doing this would be to add the DAC to the Hat (connected to the GPIO pins. I think I've seen that there's room for the DAC in the HAT.), just plug in a USB MIDI interface to the Pi's USB, and just power the Pi directly with normal micro USB powered supply. P.S. I feel like I'm writing a Dr Seuss book here, "DAC in the Hat." |

I've ordered a MT-32 Pi Hat for use with Mister (it's intended use case) and I'm wondering if it would be possible to craft a breakout cable/box/dock using the USB 3.0 connector on the Hat to make the Hat usable for other applications. Like a standalone MT-32 clone for use with older computers.
Here's an example, could a breakout box be crafted with a USB 3.0 male connector on one side (connected to the Hat) and the box would have a DIN 5 connector for MIDI input and also have some kind of analog audio connector (probably with a DAC like the PCM5102 inside the box) for audio out? I guess the question is, does the USB 3.0 connection on the Hat supply the necessary things to make this possible?
