32:9 support improvements

There is no good way to watch wide videos on 32:9 screen in f.e Disney plus. Modes in this addon works better than default, but they are not perfect. Stretch mode makes everything ultra wide and upscale mode cuts video on top and bottom part.

Describe the solution you'd like
For me ideal way to watch videos on 32:9 screen would be to fit video as much as its can be fitted, and left black bars on the left and right portion of the screen.

Thank you for requesting this feature. I do plan to support it in the near future.
I believe you can currently rely on custom scaling X/Y, where you'd proportionally increment until you are satisfied.

Is it achievable that way? I do understand if it's annoying to do so, but sounds like a solution until improvement is implemented.

Yes, after some fiddling I managed to get my desire behaviour using normal mode with scaling. It is achievable in this way, but without 2 monitors it is kinda annoying to do, because of constant need to enter fullscreen, look how video is behaving, leave fullscreen, adjust, repeat. Shortcut for changing scaling would definitely help, but I guess that it is not currently implemented on Firefox. Anyway, it is the best addon that I could find right now and thank you for your hard work. I`ll wait impatiently for native support or/and shortcuts for changing scaling :)

I will keep this in mind. I can definitely add shortcuts for scaling, but I cannot suggest them, due to browser limits.

When I add them, you'd need to go to keyboard shortcuts config from Firefox and fill-in the blank fields to whatever key combination you'd prefer.

I will definitely add shortcuts, along with this Disney Plus fix #15 .
I'll plan to support it natively without mode+scaling requirement in the future release.

I understand the frustration. Firefox doesn't allow Popup toggle within fullscreen video, unlike Chromium. It'd make life much easier for Firefox users to have popup over the video for easy configuration. :)

Would be nice if a mode would automatically behave as desired, no matter if 21:9 or 32:9 or something else.

Do you guys have any videos as references that have this aspect ratio, described on the images?
I am trying to find any that would show up in similar fashion on my 14" screen.

Yeah, no luck with either of those.
The one I mentioned above takes full width on 14" and the one you mentioned takes full height on 14". So the auto-adjust without cropping or distorting content won't happen on either.

I will try to use DevTools and set 3440x1440 as resoltion and play with that. If I understood, you guys want to scale the video only if possible on X, Y or both, without losing any content, but filling as much space as possible?

As you can see here https://youtu.be/3xqjt94iEL4 I cannot scale it "just a little bit" because either it is getting stretched (if I only reduce x scaling) or smaller in total.
I would like to have the ability to scale/zoom it for example from 16:9 to 18,5:9 instead of 21:9 so that not so many parts on the y-axis are hidden.

In that example I would like to see the balloon completely but the video still gets a little bit scaled, just not to the full width of the monitor.

Aaaah, so that is what you want. I do not think that's what @Fl0riaS wants tho.

• @Fl0riaS wants the extension to figure out how to upscale the video enough to fill the screen, but not to crop/stretch. It's good for specific aspect ratio's on super ultra-wide screens. Where neither mode works.

• @MaluNoPeleke wants the extension scaling to work with upsacle mode properly. So that scale down actually downscales it and not shrinks it and crop the content. Unfortunately this won't work, as object-fit: cover in combination with transform: scale() behaves the way that you just showed in the video.

I want to try to replace how extension behaves entirely and drop use of object-fit entirely. And rely on a single property - transform. It wouldn't affect the interface tho, as selecting "Upscale" would actually just be "normal" mode with scaling applied based on screen and video size.

This would make sense and solve two problems:

1. Tweaking the scale would change the mode to Manual and using Upscale and then tweaking the scale would simply behave the way you want @MaluNoPeleke
2. Since object-fit had or still has issues on Windows, where users need to update GPU Drivers or tweak browser settings, with transform this would no longer be needed

It's a big change and I do not know when it's going to happen. But it's on the roadmap for sure.
I've Been focused on developing the website and a single pro feature (as of now). Now focused on licensing system and an intiutive way to redeem license from the website and not from the extension.

Once I handle what's listed below, I'll rewrite the core functionality.

• Integrate payment gateway
• Integrate licensing system
• Integrate license redeem from the website
• Integrate communication from website to extension
• Improve upgrade flow to include details about what is currently available and what is on the roadmap for the future Pro version

Thanks for the summary and sharing of your plans. Are you sure that it is worth it to spend so much time/effort in payment for a Pro version? Based on the amount of comments/issues here I am not sure how many people use this extension regularly and are missing "Pro" features. Wishing you all the best and hopefully my assumptions will be wrong.
Looking forward to the code refactoring with transform.

I am not sure, but built the extension in 2018 and since then received very interesting feedback and feature requests. I think that it is time to do so, as from what I see so far, it will be the only extension on the market that isn't platform dependant. Which makes me believe the user base will grow faster.

It's not much about Pro features, as it is to having users to simply support it, even if they are happy with the free features that does everything needed.
