There could be a "What is this?" link near the top of a user's commits.to page and on each of their individual commitment pages. When you click it it shows a description of the service. The user could optionally change that description, e.g., to describe to their friends/coworkers in their own words what this website is and why they are using it.
If this existed, then when you started using commits.to URLs with a new person, you could include a brief note that they use "what is this" to learn more, instead of having to explain to them in detail.
I'd suggest allowing the user to customise it with a fairly big chunk of text if desired. I've been using about 250 words with some of my friends.
(I'm labelling this "Wait for React")
