On Windows, at least, attempting to scroll through the Log Text while output is being added does not work, as the view gets forced to the bottom every time new output is added.

Clicking on the text gains control over this (but is non-obvious)

Two issues with clicking in the Log Text window to gain control:

  1. It isn't always possible to click in the window. I find that while lots of lines of text are being printed you can't insert the cursor. You have to wait until nothing is being printed.

  2. Once you manage to click in the window and gain control over the scrollbar, it isn't obvious how to undo that. If scroll to the bottom then I click away somewhere outside of the Log Text window then it doesn't begin following the log again. I have to click away from the Log Text tab (say to Image View) and then back to Log Text so that it follows.

Online things like Travis, Jenkins blue ocean handle this by pausing scrolling if the user moves, and having a button overlaid on the text window to 'resume following'

I'm now having the opposite; at least on Windows, scrolling off of the bottom of the log file means that I can never go back to scroll-following
