Ok, my first 'post' I would rather not be a 'discussion' but I am not sure if it is an issue. It is an issue for me.
Let's start by saying I very much enjoy getting Cassowary to work. It took me quite a while before it would finally connect and show my applications. Now that I have come that far, I think my next step(s) call for some help that may support other users. For a very long time I wanted to port my working environment to Linux, but having been a MS adapt from the 90's onward, working in MS environments and jobs and more recently moving my company into it's Cloud it isn't easy to let go.
In the past few years I got involved in more and more IaC causing me to finally get regular training using the terminal console. At the same time, many applications I use in (broadcast) audiovisual work start to function very well in Linux environments. So now I am finally ready to move over. This application is a perfect tool to guide me through a few years of transition. I am sure that is what it will take.
What I did so far is not the usual way to work. I have added some storage to my PC and made a dual-boot with Zorin (Ubuntu). I made a Plasma desktop that fits all my habits. Then I created a Virtualbox VM connecting through .VDMK to my original Windows 10 (UEFI) SSD, and it booted fine and easy. That way, I have access to Outlook and other Office applications I use habitually. But it wasn't ideal when I read about Cassowary. So I figured out how to get my NvME disk running smoothly in Virtual manager. That was a lot harder, but I did it. Unfortunately, my data disks and partitions are no longer available in my Linux system parallel to Windows, but it may even be better considering the difference in use of the ntfs file system. Now My VM will take care of that.
After having solved the networking between my VM and the host, Cassowary is able to login to my VM. I turned off many autostarts and all seems to work fine. Except. I have not been able to mount any share nor start, let alone link, any applications to my Linux system. And now I wonder how important the Hyper-V additions to virt-man are. For one thing: If I do not use my VM, the resources return to my PC and I can hear it stepping down in power-use. With Cassowary connected, it doesn't. Unfortunately, when I add Hyper-V elements my VM starts with a blue screen of death. I'm working on solving that issue, but any advice is welcome.
Long story short:
What might cause the VM to connect, but be unable to mount (mount: /mnt/casualrdh: special device //192.168.122.x/ does not exist.) any shares or start any applications on my host?
When I; Misc>Kill FreeRDP my console reads: "wlfreerdp: no process found, xfreerdp: no process found". According to tutorials and hints in the terminal I have freerdp-x11 installed and Launching a full RDP session DOES launch a Full RDP session.
How important are the Hyper-V clock and possible other Hyper-V additions to the VM?
Is it considered okay I can see my main-system password coming by in the console when I connect to my VM through Cassowary?
When I have solved these hick-ups I will make sure others can profit of my findings. Of course. As said, for now ever enjoying everything I have learned so far. Would be great if for the first time I will be able to open Outlook like native on my Zorin PC. Or better yet, OneNote logged in to multiple accounts.
