Backup
Murphy's Law reads, "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong". It's a proverb from the late 1940s, and while it may not be as academically accurate and influential as Newton's laws of motion, it's generally acknowledged as a rule of thumb across experimental subjects such as social relations, business, research and technology. Even when you push your luck, things can unexpectedly go south, so it's always good to prepare for the worst.
Despite going through technological advancements in the last 50 years, when it comes to modification, electronic devices still remain prone to human errors. Detailed documentation does not shield you from incorrectly following any instructions, rendering the device in question unbootable or worse. Hence backups exist as a fallback to help prevent data loss or even roll back to the previous state in case it happens.
On KaiOS devices, there's no central method of performing a system backup, but settings can be found in each app:
- Contacts:
- Built-in Contacts app offers options to export your contacts to a CSV file on your SD card, through Bluetooth to other devices or onto online services such as Google Contacts and Outlook. To do so, go to Contacts, Options, Settings, Export contacts, choose the destination and select the contacts.
- Third-party solutions are also available, such as PhoneCopy in KaiStore
- Messages:
- On debug-enabled devices such as the 6300 4G: sideload third-party apps
- Calendar:
- Calendars can be synced through your Google account, ActiveSync or CalDAV
- strukturart's greg
- Notes:
- Contents can be shared over texts, Bluetooth or via emails.
