-iot switch explained for MT6880/MT6890 SoC

Am working with an Arcadyan KVD21 5G Gateway which uses the MediaTek T750 / MT6880/MT6890 SoC.
Stumbled onto the -iot switch in the 'usage examples' in the mtkclient README.

How do I find out how to use this switch ?
I see nothing when i do an 'mtk.py --help for example.
As near as I can tell the MT6880/MT6890 is not supported in the mtkclient as of now.
Anyway I can work with someone here to see if it could be added to the mtkclient supported list. I know this setup is not very popular.
