Interesting idea, however that use case is also already covered by DAVx5. You can set the address book to read only on the server and DAVx5 will recognize this. CardDAV servers can also be used without login credentials, and DAVx5 does support this over the extended login option. |

I'm thinking about using a remote read-only addressbook and phonebook using CardDAV protocol, for now only read/write login/password-based DAV does it.
As ICSx5 does the same way, for read-only no-login ICS files, why not syncing contacts on remote read-only VCF files?
That could be useful for:
