Following this guide https://www.davx5.com/faq/contact-birthdays-in-calendars I'm trying to get my contacts birthdays to show up in the Google Calendar app. However it seems like the Google Calendar app doesn't let me choose the DAVx5 address book. Only my Google address book is available, but I don't store any contacts there. 
Does anyone have a solution for this? |

Make sure synchronization has run at least once in DAVx5. To do so, open the account created for synchronizing, and press the bottom-right orange "synchronize" button, and wait for it to success. |

Oh, my bad, I thought you had everything clear. One thing I didn't mention is that you can't have the same account name in two accounts. This includes that if your system has Google Play Services, you can't have any account on DAVx⁵ with that name. I see here that you have two accounts with the same email address as name, is that correct? |

Yes, the two accounts had the same name. Now I renamed the DAVx5 account to "DAVx5" but it didn't help. The calendar app (Google Calendar too) only offers to show birthdays from the Google account. (Android settings left, Etar right)

As far as I know, Etar doesn't support showing birthdays from address books yet (see Etar-Group/Etar-Calendar#234). aCalendar+ and Samsung S Planner support this feature and both apps work with DAVx⁵ address books. Howeve rI have just tried with Google Calendar on my phone, too and it shows birthdays from DAVx⁵ too:
This feature of course requires contacts access for Google calendar; maybe you didn't grant that permission? |

@rfc2822 I can confirm it works with aCalendar. Still, I'd prefer Google Calendar. How does the settings page look in your Google Calendar app? This is mine: 
The first section is DAVx5, the second my Google account. Are your birthdays coming from the "Geburtstage" calendar (marked with red arrow on my screenshot)? You should be able to tell by turning the calendar on/off in the sidebar and check whether the birthdays disappear. What does it say when you click on the "Geburtstage" calendar in the setting? For me it shows this, suggesting that only contacts from my Google account are included:

Ok, no, my birthdays are coming from "Eigenes Telefon / Geburtstage von Kontakten". I guess it's a Samsung thing... Google apps (like Google Calendar and Contacts) are known to only expect Google calendars/address books and often don't work well with other calendar/address book types (surprise). So I suggest to use a working app... |

So is there no way to use davx with google calendar for birthdays? This is an real issue for me, as I would need another pp just for the birthday reminders... |

You can use a server that provides birthdays as a normal calendar (like Nextcloud) and just view this calendar in Google Calendar. |

I am using radicale, is it also possible with radicale? So is this a technical limitation by google calender that they dont allow other external app? |

No, you just need some program that takes the vCards with the birthdays and writes the birthdays to a calendar.
If you have neither of them, there's just no program that does this, so you don't have a calendar with birthday events. DAVx⁵ doesn't contain such code. https://github.com/SufficientlySecure/birthday-calendar should work with Google Calendar too because it creates a system calendar, but I think it hasn't been touched for years, so no idea whether it still works. |
