Fastmail <> Pixel 6: contact photo sync only works one way?

Hello, davX5 works great thanks for that, but I discovered an issue.

I discovered that when I change a contact photo on my mobile (Pixel 6)
the contact photo in Fastmail's web-ui is reset (=gone).

But if I change the photo in the web-ui of fastmail it is synced correctly to my mobile.

Is this a DavX5 bug? or a Fastmail bug?
Any suggestions on how to get it to work both ways?

Hi jahnf,

maybe this is because of the size of the photo. Many providers/services have limits regarding photo size. So you can try to lower the size of the photo on the mobile device. Does it work then? If not please activate verbose logging in DAVx5 and repeat the upload process. Then we can take a look at the sync, if you upload the log here.

Hello and thanks for the quick reply

I created a test contact, I enabled debug-logging and

• changed the photo on the fastmail web-ui + hit sync in the davx5 app
• changed the photo in the contact app of android + hit sync in the davx5 app

I attached the anonymized debug-info and log - I could not see any error
I also tried to set a really small picture from within the contacts app on the phone.
Maybe you can spot something

I should mention that it did not work with a small picture. Same behavior as described in the initial post.

We just tested the service and your use case: The outcome was that DAVx5 sends the photo to the server - it is also saved and if you remove the account and set it up again the photo remains. Internally it is the same format that also fastmail uses - so there should not be a compatibility problem. It seems to be a displaying problem of the fastmail web interface. You can try to report it. Maybe they find out why the photos sent by clients are not displayed correctly. Hope this helps. Please report it and provide the link to the ticket there for further reference. Thank you!

I opened an issue with Fastmail,
by the way - for the log and debug info export, it would be great if there was an option to anonymize the data - like I did manually with those files - otherwise it is not something one should give out or post somewhere ever.

Thats true. If this is important for someone we also have our ticket system - so only people working at bitfire can then see the data. You can edit your post and delete the relevant data here!
