argo app sync --revision string

according to documentation one can sync to specific revision, is this a git revision SHA in the repo? or is it something internal to argo?

Context:
trying to automate my pipeline:

• change gitops repo
• git commit + git tag (my/revision/12345)
• change argo.application.yaml targetRevision: my/revision/12345
• kubectl apply -f argo.application.yaml
• atomic synchronize of only the changed services. if my assumption is correct I can now run argocd app sync my-application --revision my/revision/12345
