Notification of incoming call or new voicemail

Any idea of how to go about adding functionality to subscribe to events like 'call' or 'new voicemail'?

I can't see a websocket connection, but it looks like there is some kind of iframe communication that push updates the the UI...

I am very curious about this as well. Hopefully in the near future Google will add this type of functionality to a native Google Voice API enabling the same type of realtime event hooks as they did for Gmail on Google apps accounts.

Addressing the topic at hand though... the only way I could envision this taking place right now and in real-time is by having a headless jabber client maintain a connection to a users Google voice account (similar to the method in getting Google voice connected with Asterisk to act as an incoming call route.

Any other ideas on this?
