Ingredients
- Poppy seed 80g
- Chicken eggs 3pcs.
- Fine white crystalline sugar 120g
- Brown sugar 100 g
- Flour 270g
- Butter 200g
- Dough baking powder 15 g
- Zest of 4 oranges
- Oranges x 4
- Milk 185 ml
- Vanilla to taste
For decoration
- Powdered icing sugar
Cooking method
1. Optionally pre-soak poppy seeds in warm water for 15 minutes, drain excess liquid.
2. Beat eggs with crystalline sugar until light and fluffy.
3. Add in the melted (cooled) butter, milk, juice of one orange (optional) and pour in the poppy seeds. Mix everything.
5. In a dry bowl, mix flour with baking powder, finely grated zest of one orange and brown sugar until even. Mix thoroughly into other bowl.
6. Line a 26cm diameter mould/tin with baking paper, pour the dough. Bake in a preheated oven at 160-170 degrees for 45-50 minutes. Readiness is checked with a toothpick.
7. Transfer the cake to a plate, sprinkle with powdered sugar, poppy seeds or the following prepared hot syrup.
Syrup (heated)
For syrup, remove the zest from three oranges, put it in a saucepan with water and boil for 5-7 minutes, then drain in a colander. Add the juice of one orange, white and vanilla sugar to the zest. Simmer uncovered for 15-20 minutes, remove from heat. Pour the hot syrup over the cake once removed from oven.
