<p>Annie Finch is an American poet, translator, critic, performance artist, and educator. Her collections of poetry include <title>
<part>Eve</part>
</title> (1997) and <title>
<part>Calendars</part>
</title> (2003), which were finalists for the National Poetry Series, and <title>
<part>Spells: New and Selected Poems (2012)</part>
</title>. Finch's other works include the verse play <title>
<part>Among the Goddesses: An Epic Libretto in Seven Dreams</part>
</title> (2010) and the opera <title>
<part>Marina</part>
</title> (2003). She has written or edited a number of books on poetics and poetry, such as <title>

<part>The Ghost of Meter: Culture and Prosody in American Free Verse</part>
</title> (1994), <title>

<p>In 2013, Finch founded American Witch Enterprises, an online community and marketplace. In 2021, she founded Poetry Witch Press.</p>
<p>Finch graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in English in 1979, earned an M.A. in poetry and verse drama from the University of Houston in 1983, and completed a Ph.D. at Stanford University, where she studied versification, in 1990. She was the director of the Stonecoast MFA Creative Writing Program at the University of Southern Maine for ten years and has lectured on meter and poetry at institutions including the University of Toronto, University of California, Berkeley, and Harvard University.</p>
<p>Finch married Glen Brand in 1985, and they have two children, Althea Finch-Brand and Julian Finch-Brand.</p>

<p>Collections are processed to a variety of levels, depending on the work necessary to make them usable, their perceived research value, the availability of staff, competing priorities, and whether or not further accruals are expected. The library attempts to provide a basic level of preservation and access for all collections as they are acquired, and does more extensive processing of higher priority collections as time and resources permit.</p>
<p>This collection received a basic level of processing, including rehousing and minimal organization.</p>
<p>Information included in the Description of Papers note and Collection Contents section is drawn from information supplied with the collection and from an initial survey of the contents. Folder titles appearing in the contents list below are often based on those provided by the creator or previous custodian. Titles have not been verified against the contents of the folders in all cases. Otherwise, folder titles are supplied by staff during initial processing.</p>
<p>This finding aid may be updated periodically to account for new acquisitions to the collection or revisions in arrangement and description.</p>

Teaching materials consist of notes, correspondence, syllabi, and readings for Finch's courses at the Stonecoast MFA program at the University of Southern Maine and Miami University of Ohio, as well as independent workshops.</p>
<p>Personal and family papers contain correspondence with Finch's parents, husband, children, and other relatives; artwork and realia; files pertaining to American Witch Enterprises, an online community and marketplace founded by Finch; and photographs and scrapbooks. Also included is research for an unpublished book by Finch on her great-aunt, educator and activist Jessie Wallace Hughan, and writings of her mother Margaret Rockwell Finch and father Henry Le Roy Finch.</p>
