I'm not sure when this issue arose as I haven't used the extension for a while. At present the extension doesn't work at all, and when opening a .md file, the download dialogue appears. With the Open in Browser extension I can try and force firefox to open it instead of downloading it, but this also doesn't work. I tried the workaround here but they didn't work at all for remote markdown files, and for local files just resulted in a blank page. I also tried renaming a file to .mdown, and this also resulted in a blank page without any mimeTypes.rdf changes.
P.S. I also tried reinstalling the extension completely.

Same here Firefox 52b2/Gentoo, a workaround is to disable multi-process on Firefox (about:config -> browser.tabs.remote.autostart -> False) but that's obviously a workaround and a high price to pay.
