What would cause an incompatibly, just curious as I don't know

For instance, a hardfork would mean your wallet is not compatible with the blockchain. Funds sent/received could be rejected or lost. It's more of a cover our ass in the event something happens we can point to it and say, "hey, we're on the latest version, this is your issue"
