Current behavior

It's weird that it is a bit difficult to find the "Tutorial for Editors" aka "Editors Guide" via the global search (top right).

Example search terms:

  1. tutorial for editors => no useful results, even if filter with "TYPO3 manual"
  2. "tutorial for editors" => not any better
  3. Editors Guide => good, first result

Results for 1:

Expected behavior/output

It seems the guide has 2 names "Tutorial for editors" and "Editors Guide" which are both displayed:

So, I would really only use one of these (everywhere) or make it possible to search for "Tutorial for editors", e.g. by adding that to the title or the start page - though this solution is a bit ugly.

Or, make sure the name displayed in the top left is being indexed. Apparently, it is probably not.

Helpful might also be to make sure using quotes in search results is supported so that it is possible to search for the exact phrase or a "word proximity search".

Usually search engines also rank hits by using the phrase or proximity higher if several search terms are used - even if not using quotes. I am not sure why this is not the case here.

Possible Solution

  • better solution: improve search
  • quick solution: add term "Tutorial for editors" on start page or in title
  • also, decide what is a tutorial and what is guide (and what is a howto etc.) and use that consistently
  • consistently use only 1 title of a manual
  • what's up with "Tell me something about"? This was already taken down some years ago.
