Contributed items also list related items

In the list of contributed items, contributors not only find the items they directly edited, but also those they add a relation to.

Could the endpoint /api/contributed-items only return the directly edited?
Is it even possible? Is the backend actually able to recognize the items edited directly and indirectly?
