Configuring LAS manually still possible?

Good evening!

Thanks for releasing LAS 9, I am glad it works with JAVA 11 and THREDDS 5.

Since I have used LAS for a long time (https://icdc.cen.uni-hamburg.de/las/getUI.do) I made some changes and I am curious if I can apply these to LAS 9, too?

• Can I set up new data sets the old way (with XML configuration files), too? I really like the new admin interface, but I don't get all of my data sets working.

• Can I delete menu entries, because I don't want to allow animations and analysis on data sets? Up to now, I adjusted the JS code to omit some menu entries, and changed the vm files.

While LAS 9 is easier to use for a new user, it is less flexible and configurable.

1. You cannot use your old XML to configure LAS 9. If the configuration process fails from the admin interface, the data set likely won't display in LAS 9. You'll have to check the logs and examine the CF compliance of the data set to see if you can diagnose what went wrong.
2. You cannot use an init script. You will have to make your data ready via some other process external to LAS and configure the resulting data set into LAS after it has been transformed rather than transform it on-the-fly with an init script.
3. You cannot configure the operations either globally or by data set. All of the operations are created here, so you could in theory comment out the operations you don't want. But as with version 8 there are UI elements that would have to be removed, which would need to be done in this part of the code.

All of which means, that you are modifying the code and rebuilding to get the changes you want rather than just using configuration.
While it would be natural to add these capabilities to LAS 9, but we are not currently doing any development on the product. If you want to take on making modifications to the code, you're welcome to ask me questions here.

I will try to make the data sets ready for LAS by checking the logs. And, I will have a look at the code to remove some of the menu items. Thanks for offering me your help when I get stuck.
