I changed the HTTP:// to HTTPS:// in the template file as our website is SSL ... this breaks the map image.

You can enable HTTPS in .htaccess

Example:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP:X-Forwarded-Proto} !https
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} !(BlackBerry)
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} !(Windows\sNT\s5\.[12])
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www\.)?domain.com
RewriteRule (.*) https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L]

Only domain.com will change
This is how we use it for a long time and everything works :)
