Prof. Pebesma leads the [Spatio-Temporal Modelling Laboratory](https://www.uni-muenster.de/Geoinformatics/en/stml/) at the [Institute for Geoinformatics](https://www.uni-muenster.de/Geoinformatics/en/), University of Münster, where he also serves as Dean of Faculty and Deputy Head of Institute. Holding a PhD in Geosciences, his research interests span spatial statistics, environmental modeling, geoinformatics, GI Science, and semantic technologies for spatial analysis. He is also focused on optimizing environmental monitoring, e-Science, and promoting reproducible research.
An ordinary member of the R Foundation, Prof. Pebesma is co-author of [Spatial Data Science: With Applications in R](https://r-spatial.org/book/) and the second edition of [Applied Spatial Data Analysis with R](https://asdar-book.org/). He has served as a section editor for the [Journal of Statistical Software](https://www.jstatsoft.org/index) (2015-2021) and was an associate editor for Spatial Statistics. Prof. Pebesma strongly believes in the practical value of research, particularly when it addresses real-world problems.
