Experiencing same. This probably started happening around after recent updates of fossify messages.
It used to work fine before. It still works fine if you use stock SMS app or qksms. |

Steps to reproduce the bug
Go to call log
Click on 3 dots near a contact or raw number -> Send sms
The sms opens and the number does not have the + in front resulting in impossibility to send the message
Expected behavior
The number should be pasted exactly as it is with + in front so the sms can be sent.
Actual behavior
Carrier refuses to send message and number can't be edited.
