Our vendor contracts can include bundled episodes. Bundled episodes are a way to group related services together across claims (both UB and CMS) and price these services specially based on their inclusion in the bundle. These episodes have an expected payment associated with them, which acts as a maximum or cap, meaning it is possible for the bundle of services to be priced at some amount lower than the expected payment, but never higher than this expected payment.
We are adding support for these bundles to the machine readable files and are wondering what the best way to report this rate is. Since we don't have a real claim or a real patient when generating these files, we have no way of knowing if a given bundle episode has reached its cap amount yet. We are planning on reporting the expected payment as the negotiated_rate, but we're curious if there are additional enhancements that could be made to better depict this situation.
Would this pricing scenario be a good candidate for the additional_information object? Or possibly a new negotiated_type could be added to the schema for rates that serve as maximum rates instead of absolute rates? Any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated!
