When searching for a taxon, with or without "Synonyms clicked" the search retrieves taxa that are not taxonomic synonyms, but have the same specific epithet. For example, a search for Cryptantha intermedia (Safari) correctly retrieves Cryptantha intermedia and the synonyms Cryptantha intermedia var. intermedia and Cryptantha intermedia var. johnstonii (plus a couple of in progress "strigillosa" I have been entering, but it also pulls taxa that are no longer synonyms of C. intermedia, but have been transferred to other species: Cryptantha intermedia var. grandiflora [=Cryptantha grandiflora], Cryptantha intermedia var. hendersonii [=Cryptantha hendersonii], and Cryptantha intermedia var. rigida [=Cryptantha juniperensis]. Chrome also pulls Eritrichium intermedium and Krynitzkia intermedia, which are correct synonmys; Safari does not.
I have checked the synonomy on the Thesaurus, which seems (now) correct (image of Tree View attached).
I don't know how widespread this is, but it is certainly not desirable to pull names that have the same specific epithet, but are not synonyms of that parent name.
I believe this was an issue before 3.1, corrected then.
Best,
Michael Simpson
