Upgrading

Hi,

I have found the upgrading wiki article, but it is not really clear to me how to upgrade. Is it correct that I need a fresh install of allsky, but how is the upgrade made from the old allsky? Is there a question within the installation wizard?

And how do I know when to upgrade the remote website?

Could you please provide the URL to the instructions you are referring to? I want to make sure they are the correct instructions, since they should answer your "how" questions.
Basically, if you have a current version of Allsky, stop it and rename the allsky directory to allsky-OLD, then do the git clone ... per the instructions. The install script will see you have an allsky-OLD directory and ask if you want to use it.

If you are comfortable doing so, please add --branch v2024.12.06_01 to the git clone command (e.g., git clone --branch v2024.12.06_01 ....
That will download an early copy of the February 1 release which will make things a little easier.

Regarding upgrading the remote Website, when you upgrade Allsky it checks if you have a remote Website, and if so, tells you if it needs updating.
It will need updating, so just follow the instructions, but ignore the part that tells you to copy the new files there. That section should have been deleted since the Website install script does it for you.

Perhaps a note to the installation wizard and import of an old allsky version would be helpfull mentioning. So it is not really clear, wether the installation wizard will migrate automatically to the new version. But it worked well so far.

Ah it seems that the remote website was not upgraded. Is there any manual force upgrade command?

The If a version of Allsky already exists section of the instructions discuss how and when to use allsky-OLD to upgrade the Allsky release.
If the installation wizard finds that directory it asks you if you want to use it to upgrade Allsky, and tells you what it will do.
If the wizard doesn't find allsky-OLD it says so and gives you the chance to exit installation and create the directory.

I'm not sure what else it should say. If you have a specific suggestion of what to say and where, let me know.

If the installation wizard notices your remote Website needs updating, it says:

Your remote Website needs to be updated to this newest version."
It is at version v2023.05.01

Run:  cd ~/allsky;  ./remoteWebsiteInstall.sh"

The wizard does NOT automatically update the Website; instead, it requires the user to update by running
cd ~/allsky; ./remoteWebsiteInstall.sh.

You can look at the Installations -> Allsky Website documentation page which also describes what to do, but in more detail.
