You can add a mask with the process you mentioned directly within AllSky. It just needs to be an image with white for the parts you want to show through and black for parts you want to cover. It takes a bit of editing in Photoshop to get this working right. The size of the mask is the same size as your image. This is what I did:
But this does not give you extra space on the sides than what is already there in the image. To do that, you will have to use the border module: https://github.com/AllskyTeam/allsky-modules/tree/master/allsky_border The installation steps are here for installing a module: https://github.com/AllskyTeam/allsky-modules?tab=readme-ov-file#installation Once installed, add it to your module manager's day and night time flows and set your borders and fill color to your liking. |

@chvvkumar, Kumar, FYI, we will be adding the ability to create masks in Allsky. Alex and I have discussed it a couple times. It will likely be released later this year. |

OK, Making good progress and finding my way around. I managed to add the Border Module quite easily. I also loaded in the Mask Image Module with no success. I created a Mask file and loaded it in - mask is not showing when I activate and test. I placed it in the Overlay module to check if it was working and I can see the image (covers everything as expected just showing as black background and the white circle. I have tried different active module order and switching off and on Border overlay and Image Overlay with no luck - is there a setting for the Mask I'm missing? |

Hello, git clone https://github.com/AllskyTeam/allsky-modules.git But when I run the installer I got this: The logfile shows this:
It's strange because I've been able to install modules before like openweather and the temp module. What should I do ? Thanks. |

Hello, no this is not what I'm saying. What I'm saying (and seeing) is that the image became smaller on the screen. Look at these 2 screenshots. With borders the image does not come until the bottom of the screen. Thabks for looking at it. |

I'm pretty sure I know what's going on. You turned on the There's another setting called In your "no borders" screenshot, it looks like the circle is about 900px, so it takes up the whole box. You added a border on the left and right which increased the physical width of the image. The Website has to shrink the "borders" image so it fits in the 900px box. It looks like the total border width is about 1/3 of the original image width, so the Website had to shrink the "borders" image about 30% more than the "no borders" image, making the circle about 30% smaller. == This is identical to if you printed both images on the same size paper - the circle would be smaller in the "borders" image. Note that the gray box in both screenshot is the same width - 900px. One solution is to increase the Due to a bug, the gray box will probably only grow to a max of 960px. |

I've done it, but stupid as I am, the previous allsky-old was still there so now I have an old allsky, which BTW is not working. But I had done something you told me a few weeks ago be to do as a backup: backup env.josn and the folder config. This is more recent (although not up to date). Shoudl I copy this back to the SD card? or even better, even more recent copy I've done from the SD card to the SSD card (to mnt/ssd/home/Olivier/allsky. |

OK, I've been able to restore a lot by just editing in the GUI (so no copy of files), the local and remote website are working, the images are saved on the ssd, the image settings I can find it back (that's for later), mini timelaps is working. https://www.vvscapella.be/OVA/html/allsky/ What would be nice is to let me know how to recuperate the overlay (which I have on the SSD). Only one issue, the image seems even smaller than before the upgrade. Thanks |

Can you explain what this mean?
If https://www.vvscapella.be/OVA/html/allsky/ is what's running on the SSD, it's version v2023.05.01_05. That's why it's smaller than before the upgrade.
Did you get your overlay resolved? |

Hello Eric With all these problems I have decided to do a complete new installations (I kept the "problematic" allsky under "allsky_saved"). I still boot from SD on which the allsky is installed. Website version is ok I think (how can I find out?) The only issue is the border next to the image: the image keep on shrinking, but I think you told me to wait for the update of early Feb. Apart from that everthing is ok. |

Hi - this is my 1st post here on this forum. Completely new to Allsky camera and Pi. I have managed to connect all and obtain a focused daytime image from my HQ camera. That is phase one. Before I install all the hardware etc. and as part of the learning process, I know it is possible to add a mask image of black and a white circle to retain the image and supply a bit more space for overlay text etc. Can I ask what is the procedure to add this? also what size should the mask image (.png file) be and on the original image circle being produced - which almost fills the screen - is it possible to scale this image so as not to crop out too much of the existing circle. Thanks in advance.
