Something that displays how much more of a given crafting material is required to make all the recipes. For example, Nookipedia counts up how many total summer shells, clays, etc. are needed to complete all relevant DIY recipes -- i.e. 36 summer shells according to Nookipedia: Summer Shell.
When I craft a recipe for the first time, I'd like to see that number of shells (or whatever material) show what I still need for all remaining recipes -- i.e. Water Flooring costs 6 summer shells, so marking this as crafted this would reduce my total summer shells needed to 30.
This be especially helpful for stockpiling enough seasonal ingredients even if I don't get access to all of their recipes before the end of the season. Also helpful for ensuring that I've caught enough of a given fish/sea critter (for donating and cooking all recipes) before they disappear this month.
