At least one user send us a broken template which was edited with Office for Mac 2008 (12.3.6) on a Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.3. This was preceded by difficulties in editing the document at all.

12.3.6 is the latest stable release of Office for Mac 2008, Mainstream support ended in 2013.

This needs further investigation with the mentioned versions of Mac OS and Office.

One solution would be to make a custom template for this specific Office for Mac version.
Another "solution" would be to drop support for Office for Mac 2008 and require Office for Mac 2011 (which we tested successfully).
