Do we have to now pay to use FadBlock?

#228 (comment)
As per this comment:
"For those who have been using the extension for free, I appreciate your interest in our service. Please note that while you will no longer experience pop-ups, you will need to start a trial account to continue enjoying FadBlock. After the 7-day trial, a lifetime membership will be required to access all features."

So if we are unable to/don't want to pay we are done?

If you're supported the extension then you don't have to but as you can see, YouTube is going out of the way to hunt down adblockers.

No other extension has been working (on YT's new update, some may be working as FadBlock was working for some) as most are just copycats that took our open-source code and left it at that.

The update was necessary because the previous version wasn’t functioning in some regions, and it took me weeks of work to get it right.

A small one-time contribution seems reasonable after providing free service to our users for over a year.

If you still think it's unfair and are unable to pay, feel free to email me and we can always work something out.

It's fair enough to contribute for a compliment on the service, also a $6 donate is still much cheaper than subscriping on YT premium.

But as long as the payment becomes a must, it's no longer a donation but a trade, as a trading we would also like to have some promises back.
Such as the service lifetime, update frequency, added value etc. Especially when we are experiencing the old app sold half year ago, and sometimes block malfunction due to YT update.

Things that can be tolerate when the paid is optional, but once it is a purchase then our expectation will also be higher.

I do not against the one-time contribution policy, owner you did served a great job on this project and with a promt response on every issue. But owner you should also explain to us more rather than just suddenly ask everyone to pay within 7 days.

Oh last thing, the pop out is really suspicious. I nearly thought it was a virus or scam when it comes out.

Is there a way to get lifetime membership without plugin's popup? No offense. I mean, I'd be ok to pay here:

will I get it?

wow what a fucking scam. literally just download Firefox + uBlock Origin. the issue is chrome the browser... removed your extension instantly the moment I saw the popup, do better bro

@0x48piraj appreciate your work and effort thus far. Considering the mountain of a giant that's Google and all its resources pitted against you. I hope this message encourages you to keep up the good fight. No regrets to have contributed a small sum to show my support. I hope others do the same as well.

@Hufflepuffhatesyoutubeads47

@0x48piraj Before I buy in, I need to be assured that my card won't be automatically charged for anything in the future and that it will truly be just a one-and-done thing. Please respond as quickly as you can with this, youtube ads suck, but getting charged without knowing sucks harder

@hksn999 You're absolutely right, and I have maintained the application for a year now more or less. I know everyone won't hold the same sentiment because the app was a bit unstable because YT was pushing regional changes and I don't think I can or anyone can promise to instantly release fixes for these kinds of things. But I sure can and have hung around to personally help the contributors in any way I can, from suggesting quick fixes to collecting info about the problems and being proactive about it.

The old app incident was well documented and I promised that the app won't be sold again no matter what. It's been more than 9 months now.

At last, the popup is kind of necessary because people generally don't look at the extension's dashboard.

@963io Sure, you can, or use PayPal and email me here: [email protected] and I can manually add you.

@Hufflepuffhatesyoutubeads47, No way, that would be illegal, plus the payment processor I use is Stripe, which is a world renowned company. You can ask around the contributors, worst case you can PayPal so you make sure it's an one-off.

@skydug Thank you for your kind words. It really means a lot in a sea of bad comments.

@nitrog0d Everybody here knows about uBlock and it's the best adblocker there is. But, YouTube is fighting primarily against traditional adblockers and so there have been times wherein uBlock stopped working but FadBlock didn't as it's designed only for YouTube. I myself use uBlock in tandem with FadBlock to cover my bases. Changing the pace to a more sustainable way is now considered a scam? Do better bro.

Bro, i think we should find a way that works for @0x48piraj rather request him to accommodate every unique payment methods from around the world. Of course with a big enough demand from the market you're in, I also think it would make sense for him to set it up. As for the current set up he offers, I believe it covers where a majority have access to those options e.g. Paypal.

Hah, there are 5 million WeChat pay users and 4 million Ailpayhk users not hkers in your standard. They both are "mainland Chinese and pro-China people" by your standard, which is more than half of HK civilians. Better find some data to counter this reality:

You must have forgotten there are many mainland Chinese immigrants, and you’ve must known hk WeChat & Alipay and cn ver. are not connected, pretty sure your 4 and 5m ppl included, WeChat and Alipay still not main payment methods in hk, we use credit card, octopus, even FPS EPS payme, don’t represent us

@0x48piraj I can't imagine the lot of work needed to maintain this extension. It is quite a legit decision to change Fadblock to a close source. It is your project, your time and you could have stopped maintaining it, as it happens for many small open source projects after a while or when they grow bigger.

You warned the user base, people who already contributed got a licence. Seems quite fair.

And if I may add, you shouldn't work 80h a week it is a highway to burnout.

So? You must have forgotten there are many mainland Chinese immigrants, and you’ve must known hk WeChat & Alipay and cn ver. are not connected, pretty sure your 4 and 5m ppl included, WeChat and Alipay still not main payment methods in hk, we use credit card, octopus, even FPS EPS payme, don’t represent us And don’t forget, visa & PayPal are well known “international payment“ methods, don’t be arrogant.

LOL, you ignore so-called Hongkongers all come from mainland China even great-great-grandparents from 2 centuries ago, the so-called new immigrants from mainland China are just nothing but the continuing situation of the history of Hong Kong's population. Better read your kinship to know which ancestors came to Hong Kong from the mainland before saying some "I represent HKers" nonsense, what qualifications do you have to do that?

It is suspicious you still arrogantly insist that "WeChat Pay and Alipay are still not main payment methods in HK" since all HK markets, stores, restaurants, and even buses, MTRs, minibusses, Taxis, ferries, Universities payments, etc. Already accepted both WeChat and AilypayHk to local payment as like Octopus, Credit cards, and FPS/EPS/Payme. Even WeChat Pay and Ailpay also continue their payment internationalized and affect East Asia, Europe, North America even South Africa.

Therefore, the biggest decision-making power lies in whether the @0x48piraj accepts these two things. Or I must apply for PayPal immediately if he only accepts PayPal payment. This is a simple situation. You can advise me to apply PayPal to contribute instead of promoting your blind, meaningless Hong Kong nativist thinking.

I just hope the contribution can make this blocker effective longer.

Interesting~ So, did Americans say they are British? Or may be jpese korean say they are Chinese? Perhaps Chinese can call Mongolians~
HK found since 1841, PRC since 1949, POC since 1911, who is ancestor?
If that’s the case, everyone should come from Africa.
It’s funny when people identify themselves from ancestors but not the place they born or live, like “I love ancestors and I hate where I born but I don’t want to go back”
Places accept those 2 just mean their customers will use, that doesn’t show the population of usage.
As I said, we don’t do “better have wechat pay or ailpayhk for most hk users, since i come from hk” thing, we are not arrogant to ask people suit our wish.

Is that interesting? Americans need a bloody war of independence against the British colonization in the Thirteen Colonies to ensure their new names. Otherwise, they are nothing but still a civil colony in NA from the British Empire.

Korean Peninsula is a long-term buffer location between the crush of Great powers between East Asia and overseas, Jap's self-development most times from protection by the Sea of Japan. The Mongolians needed the chance and reborn Genghis Khan started the great war to rebuild their Empire and reshape their 33 million km2 steppe.

Don't deliberately blur the concepts of sovereign states, independent states, and civilization after building a state. HK was colonized by the failure of the war against the British from the Qing Empire in 1841. It has not been found as a state, nor ROC and PRC. All of these lands are offspring of a dynasty starting from 1644. The so-called localism will never continue their thinking if they do not dare start the war and sacrifices. Which is the only way to break the chains of absolute sovereignty from a state.....

Skip it, these political standards, arguments, and ideology discussions are off-topic. It must end now. Since Mr. @0x48piraj has not responded. I must start the application of PayPal for the future Adblock stable usage yearly. And hope there will be more detailed payment information.

@ene0s Thank you for being so understanding and considering my perspective. I apologize for bringing up the "80-hour" issue; it wasn't fair to everyone. It’s my choice, and I shouldn't complain about it. I just wanted to help others visualize the situation and why I needed to take a stand. Otherwise, like before, this project would consume a lot of hard hours, and that wouldn't be sustainable.

I really appreciate your concern—I’ve been feeling burned out, which is why these past couple of months have been tough. So, thank you for noticing.

Hey guys (@Wilson076, @Stephitsang, @eltspu, @rcz0315, @foglight55), um, I didn't get how the payment situation is in your region and it's my bad, I would try to fork out something but honestly, you can email me and I would be happy to hand out licenses if it's difficult to hop through payment processors and stuff.

I don't want to spend any more time on the payment system because it doesn't really matter to me. It was a choice I made to make things sustainable for myself, not a way to make money or deceive anyone, contrary to popular opinion. You can look at my profile and see what I do and how many projects I have open-sourced all these years.

Thank you, @0x48piraj, for your contribution to these open-source projects!
I would like to point out that with this project, you have already provided the most valuable "first step" for everyone. If someone wants to use it for free indefinitely, why not learn from the project and make the updates themselves? Even if speeding up the skip function is not possible, is it really that hard to write some code to click the "skip" button after 5 seconds?
For projects that rely on developers' passion, if you are unable to contribute, I believe it is basic courtesy not to place additional demands on the developers.
This is a place for the exchange of ideas and collaboration, not just for free resources.
